2023 – present Co-PI critical infrastructure lab | Postdoc University of Amsterdam
The lab researches power and contestation in internet infrastructures, and aims to create space to co-develop alternative infrastructural futures that center people and planet over profit and capital. Here research and teach on the environmental justice issues in internet infrastructure.

2021 – present Co-lead of the Green Screen Climate Justice and Digital Rights Coalition
Initiate and coordination of funder coalition to establish the environmental implications of the internet and digital technologies as a research field and policy area.

2022 postdoc Data Justice Lab Cardiff University
Independent implementation of research into the datafication of the welfare state. This included a.o. research into the uses of algorithmic management structures and data-driven worker surveillance within standard employment, particularly low-wage work.

2018 – 2023 Independent Consultant
Researcher, adviser, trainer, and product developer on issues related to privacy, digital security, technology, data protection, and the EU AI Act for among others the Ada Lovelace institute, SIDN Fund, Engine Room, EU AI Fund, Hivos, Greenhost, IKV Pax, IFEX, Panoptykon, GIZ, PILP NJCM, Algorithm Watch and OSF.

2018- 2022 PhD Data Justice Lab Cardiff University
Thesis passed with no corrections on April 2022: Data-driven policing: Negotiating the legitimacy of the police.

Empirical research on data-driven policing as a praxis and a site for struggle in Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK context. Here, I introduce three concepts; the organization optimization logic of data- driven policing, the politics of injustice, and data legitimacy. These concepts allow me to account for the shifting boundaries of police power in a datafied society.

2021 Greenweb fellow, Green Web Foundation
Fellowship to advance climate justice among internet industry, policy- makers, and funders.

2019 – 2020 Mozilla Foundation Fellow
Mozilla public policy fellow on trustworthy Artificial Intelligence, explored the intersection of AI, policy, human rights, and climate change.

2014 – 2017 Tactical Tech, Berlin, Project Lead Politics of Data
Responsible for the strategy and management of the Politics of Data program, that focuses on demystifying technology and offer actionable pathways for individuals, human rights defenders and journalist to manage their data environment.

2013 – 2014 Hivos, The Hague, Program Manager Digital Defenders Partnership
Initiator, fund-raising, set-up and management of leading digital emergency program with the aim to keep the internet open and free and its critical users safe.

2009 – 2013 Hivos, The Hague, Program Officer and Knowledge Officer
As a program officer I supported global and local internet digital activist initiative. As a knowledge officer I worked together with an academic counter part to explore how new forms of activism are challenging power relations by looking through the lens of technology, youth and engagement.
